DEL NORTE COUNTY - A 58-year-old Smith River woman and four passengers were injured Sunday, April 17, 2011, in a possible alcohol-related accident on First Street, south of North Beckstead Avenue, the Times-Standard reported. The driver, Shirley Sherman, 58, was driving a 1998 Geo Prizm northbound on First Street at about 10:30 p.m. when her vehicle drifted to the right and collided with a parked vehicle. Passenger Cecil Sherman of Loleta suffered major injuries. Passengers Debra Sherman, 44, and Marvin Richards, 53, suffered moderate injuries, and passenger Ronald Richards, 52, suffered minor injuries. The CHP reported none of the occupants of the vehicle were properly restrained, and that drunk driving was likely a factor. The incident remains under investigation.
