Sacramento Woman Killed When Disabled Car Struck on Highway 50

chplightsatnight.jpgA 52-year-old Sacramento woman died early Tuesday morning when the car she was riding in was struck fron behind on Highway 50. According to the Sacramento Bee, the victim, Luther Jean Harris, 52, of Sacramento, was a front seat passenger in a car driven by Rodney Glass, 37, of West Sacramento.

The 1998 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Glass ran out of gas at about 12:40 a.m. and came to stop in westbound lane four, a transition lane to southbound Interstate 5. According to the CHP, Glass's vehicle had its emergency lights flashing when it was rear-ended by a westbound Chevrolet El Camino driven by Jay Stebley, 55, of Sacramento.

The Sacramento Bee reported that Stebley looked over his shoulder to view traffic and did not see the Camaro stopped in the lane until it was too late to avoid the rear-end collision. Both Rodney Glass and Jay Stebley were taken to UC Davis Medical Center with moderate injuries. Harris, who was not wearing her seat belt when the disabled vehicle was rear-ended, died at the scene of the crash.

Orangevale Man Killed in Highway 50 Crash Caused by Wrong-Way Driver

US-50.pngA 41-year-old Orangevale man was killed in a crash late Wednesday evening on US Route 50 near the Red Hawk Casino in Placerville, authorities reported. The El Dorado County crash occurred at about 11:10 p.m. April 7, west of Red Hawk Parkway The CHP believes the fatal head-on crash was caused by a woman driving the wrong-way on Highway 50. The victim, Bruce Michael Bone, was driving westbound on Highway 50 when his vehicle was struck by a sport-utility vehicle going eastbound.

The suspected wrong-way driver, Theresa Ghersanich, 55, of Placerville, suffered major injuries in the crash, and was arrested on suspicion
of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Bruce Bone. It is heartbreaking when accidents like this one are entirely preventable. Please keep Bruce's family in your prayers during this surely difficult time.

If the facts of this accident are accurate, the wrong-way driver suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol caused this crash.
