4-Year-Old Boy on Bike Struck by Pickup Truck in Palm Desert
PALM DESERT - A 4-year-old boy was terribly injured after he was hit by a Toyota truck at about 8:40 p.m. Sunday in Palm Desert. The boy, who was with his mother at the time of incident, was crossing on his bicycle when he was struck by an eastbound pickup truck that ran a red light at the Fred Waring Drive and San Pablo Avenue intersection, The Desert Sun reports. The boy was immediately taken to an area hospital with moderate to major injuries. Palm Desert police determined alcohol was not involved in the pedestrian accident. And no reports were released if the driver was cited or arrested.
Cause of the Palm Desert Pedestrian Accident
Police officials have not confirmed what caused the driver to run a red light and hit the child in a Palm Desert crosswalk. It is also not evident whether distracted driving caused or contributed to this horrible May 13th accident. But, if news accounts provided by The Desert Sun is accurate, and if traffic lights were functioning correctly and roads were properly marked, the driver of the Toyota truck may be at fault for failing to stop at a red light.
Liability for Palm Desert Pedestrian Accidents
Pedestrians, no matter at what age the individual may be, can suffer injuries and death after being hit by a vehicle. However, children and the elderly are highly more vulnerable to sustaining serious injuries. Therefore, following a devastating car vs. pedestrian accident, the family of the child would be well-advised to speak to an experienced and knowlegeable Palm Desert personal injury lawyer regarding their legal rights in a civil claim. If authorities conclude that the accident was due to driver negligence, an Estey Bomberger attorney can help protect the family's legal rights by holding the party civilly and financially responsible for the child's hospital and medical care expenses, pain and suffering, and other related damages.
