P-51 Mustang plane.jpgRENO, NEVADA -- The death toll has risen to nine individuals Saturday in the horrific Reno air race show crash that took place on September 16th at around 4 p.m., the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. According to Reno Deputy Police Chief Dave Evans, the deaths included seven people who were killed on the tarmac and two others who died at hospitals. The fatal crash of the P-51 Mustang flown by veteran race pilot Jimmy Leeward, 74, has also resulted in a variety of serious injuries to spectators involved in the incident. These injuries included major head wounds, facial trauma and limb injuries, including amputations. Doctors who have treated the injured said it was among the most severe situations that they had ever dealt with due to the large number of people, which included at least two children under the age of 18 who were not in critical condition.

The National Transportation Safety Board arrived at the scene of the accident on Saturday to evaluate the crash and determine what caused Leeward to lose control of his plane. Investigators will also look at variety of factors including, mechanical failure, and the health condition of the pilot.

Cause of the Reno Air Race Crash

The accident occurring September 16th remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. However, based on the information provided by news reports, it is unclear what caused the pilot to lose control of his plane. The Reno police has provided a GPS mapping system to help investigators reconstruct the crash while the NTSB officials have been reviewing videos and images captured by witnesses at the scene, which shown a piece of the plane coming off prior to crashing. To witnesses, this piece looked to be an "elevator trim tab," which helps the pilot keep control of the aircraft. According to NTSB spokesman Mark Rosekind, their focus will be on an unidentified component that was recovered from the accident. Investigators stated the NTSB has also recovered part of the plane's tail section. Hopefully authorities will come to a conclusion as to what happened and why.

Temecula Softball Coach Pleads Guilty to Child Molestation

TEMECULA - Alex Flores, 40, a former softball coach for the Temecula Valley Girls Softball Association, has pleaded guilty to molesting three teenaged girls. According to a report in the Temecula Patch, Flores gave wine to one of the softball players he coached during an overnight stay for a softball game in Coachella. When the 13-year-old victim fell asleep, Flores woke her by rubbing her back and buttocks. In another incident, Floes offered to cancel practice if a player sent him a nude photo of herself. She did, and he cancelled practice. Other incidents involved groping over the victims' clothes.

This case raises the question as to whether the perpetrator's employer, the Temecula Valley Girls Softball Association, failed to supervise Flores. Had Flores ever been accused of misconduct before? Did his employer have policies in place to supervise coaches and their interactions with the young players? Did the softball association turn a blind eye to Flores' actions?

Estey Bomberger child molestation victim lawyers are nationally known for holding negligent supervising organizations responsible for sexual crimes against children. Last year we obtained the largest single plaintiff verdict in California history for a child molestation victim - a $30 million verdict against a foster agency in Santa Clara County. If your child has been the victim of child molestation, contact the Temecula personal injury attorneys at Estey Bomberger for a free consultation and review of your potential case.

Concerns Arise Over Skechers Shape-Ups For Kids

skechers-shape-ups-kids.jpgToning shoes are not without controversy and concern. While advocates insist the shoes are effective and safe, critics are dubious as to whether the shoes actually burn calories, and actually are safe to wear. Now Skechers is marketing the trendy exercise shoes to girls as young as seven years old. A commercial running on children's channels such as Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon shoes a group of slim, in-shape young cartoon girls wearing Shape-ups, with one girl being chased by out-of-shape boys dressed as hot dogs, ice-cream and cupcakes.

Many parents are concerned about the marketing of the shoes, as well as the potential injuries that could result from wearing the shoes, including ankle and knee fractures, hip stress fractures and head and hand injuries from falling. Whether because the shoes potentially send a negative, body-conscious message to young girls, or because wearing them could cause life-impacting injuries, there are many reasons to not buy toning shoes for kids, or adults. Currently, the Los Angeles based Skechers is not manufacturing the shoes for boys, but Skechers President Leonard Armato stated that the company would potentially make the shoes for boys if the market demanded it.

The Skechers Shape-ups injury lawyers at Estey Bomberger are currently screening toning shoe injury cases. If you or your child has suffered an injury from wearing Skechers Shape-ups (or any other toning shoe) that required hospitalization or surgery, contact Estey Bomberger for a free, no-obligation consultation. You may be entitled to compensation for your injuries from the manufacturer of the toning shoe that caused your injury.

Oakland Man Killed in Ford Explorer Rollover on Interstate 80

i80albany.jpgALBANY - A Ford Explorer SUV rollover tragically killed a 48-year-old Oakland man Monday morning in Alameda County, Mercury News reported. The accident was reported on eastbound Interstate 80, just west of Buchanan Street, at about 10 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011. The victim, identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau as Napoleon Quintero, was driving a white Ford Explorer with his wife and two children when for unknown reasons, he lost control of the vehicle, causing the SUV to roll multiple times. Quintero's wife suffered a broken leg, and his two children suffered minor to moderate injuries.

Cause of the April 18th Accident

The cause of the SUV rollover accident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol At this point, the news reports raise more questions than answers as to what happened. It is not clear why Quintero lost control of his vehicle. Vehicle rollovers can occur for many reasons, from unsafe steering maneuvers to tire blowouts to dangerous road conditions. Hopefully, the investigation by the CHP will provide answers as to why this tragic rollover occurred.

SUV Rollover Accident Liability

Ford Motor Co. and other vehicle manufacturers have paid out hundreds of millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements to victims of SUV rollover accidents and their families. If a design defect in the vehicle is determined to have caused or contributed to the fatal accident, the manufacturer of the car may be liable for the wrongful death of the driver, Napoleon Quintero, and the injuries sustained by his family members in the vehicle with him. Following a fatal Ford Explorer rollover crash such as this April 18th crash on Interstate 80, the family members of the victims of this crash would be well-advised to speak with a California SUV rollover accident lawyer.

Although no money awarded in a verdict or settlement can bring back a loved one's life taken too soon, a personal injury or wrongful death claim can ensure responsible parties are held accountable, and that future similar occurrences may be prevented. Damages awarded in wrongful death claim may include compensation for anticipated future earnings and financial contributions the decedent would have earned, funeral and burial expenses, and loss of love, care, affection, guidance and companionship.

Red Bluff Girl Critically Injured in Tehama County Crash

ca99pattersonroad.jpgRED BLUFF -- A 6-year-old Red Bluff girl suffered major injuries in a four-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Tehama County, the Record-Searchlight reported. The accident was reported at 12:45 p.m. on April 2, 2011, on Highway 99E just south of Patterson Road. The young girl was a passenger in a 1999 Subuaru driven northbound on Highway 99E by Jerod Gilbert, 24, of Red Bluff. When Gilbert slowed the vehicle to make a left turn onto Patterson road, he was rear-ended by a 1999 Ford driven by Pablo Vasquez, 31, of Gerber. The impact of the rear-end collision caused Gilbert's vehicle to spin into southbound traffic where it was struck by a car driven by John Koga, 19, of Palo Cedro. A 29-year-old Paradise woman, Kristen Horst, was able to avoid the collision, but lost control of her 2010 Subaru and ended up in a grassy field.

Jerod Gilbert, Pablo Vasquez, and Kristen Horst were reportedly not injured in the crash. John Koga suffered minor injuries, as did a passenger in Gilbert's Subaru, Rikki Ramey, 25. A six-year-old girl in Gilbert's Subaru was critically injured and taken to Enloe Medical Center in Chico, and later transferred to UC Davis Medical Center.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating this incident. Based on the news reports, it appears the driver of the Ford who rear-ended Gilbert's vehicle may be responsible for this collision. The CHP surely will look at the speed of all vehicles, possible negligence such as texting and driving or driving under the influence in determining what happened, and who was responsible.

If the driver of the Ford is determined to be at fault here, he may be liable for the injuries the little girl in the Subaru suffered. When negligence or reckless driving cause accidents that result in serious injury to a child, the parents of the victim would be well-advised to seek a consultation with a knowledgeable California car accident lawyer. A skilled attorney can help the family protect their legal rights to hold the negligent parties fully accountable for medical expenses and pain and suffering the family endured as a result of this accident.
