Pedestrian Killed, Four Injured in Marysville Collision

marysvilleaccident.jpgYUBA COUNTY - The Appeal Democrat reported a violent collision Tuesday night in Marysville killed a young woman, injured four other people, and knocked out pour to much of the city. What happened exactly is still unclear, as witnesses gave conflicting reports of the incident, which occurred at 8:40 p.m. near 10th (Highway 20) and F Streets, involved a Jeep Commander, a white Kia Rio, and two pedestrians.

Police believe the young woman who was killed was a pedestrian, although it is not clear if she was on the sidewalk or in the crosswalk when she was struck. Based on the information provided, it appears the driver of the Jeep travelling north on F street may have sped up to make a green light, but swerved to avoid pedestrians in the crosswalk, and broadsided a Kia Rio, before shearing a utility pole. The Appeal-Democrat reported splintered wood from the pole, broken windshield glass, and pieces of metal were strewn across the intersection.

9-Year-Old Girl Fatally Struck by Car in Marysville

17th and Huston Sts - Marysville.pngYUBA COUNTY -- A young girl who was walking her bike on her way to school was severely struck by a car at about 7:44 a.m. Thursday, KCRA News reported. The 9-year-old girl, Julianna Villa-Hopkins, was attempting to cross the street at the intersection of 17th and Huston when her bike apparently fell. As she reached down to pick it up, that is when a driver of an SUV making a right from Huston Street and onto 17th Street seriously struck her. The young girl was airlifted to a local hospital after the incident, but later died due to her injuries.

Cause of the Marysville Pedestrian Accident

The accident on November 10th remains under investigation by the authorities. However, based on the information provided by KCRA News and ABC 10 News, it is unclear why the driver did not see the pedestrian. Grass Valley Man Killed in Head-on Collision in Yuba County

A 61-year-old Grass Valley man died Saturday in a horrific head-on collision on Hammonton-Smartville Road in Linda, the Appeal Democrat reported. The accident occurred at 1:05 p.m., west of Bryden Road. According to news reports, Thomas Whitman of Grass Valley was driving a 1999 Hyundai east on Hammonton-Smartville, while at the same time, a 2001 Toyota driven by a 17-year-old Olivehurst boy, was travelling west. The CHP believes the Olivehurst teen, who was not identified, may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing him to drift over the center line into the eastbound lane.

hammonton-smartville-road-eb.jpgWhitman reportedly swerved the Hyundai to attempt to avoid the collision, while at the same time the teenager jerked the Toyota back into the westbound lane. The two vehicles collided head-on. Whitman died of his injuries at the scene of the accident. The 17-year-old driver suffered moderate injuries. An 18-year-old passenger and a 12-year-old passenger, both from Winton, suffered major injuries. The two teens were taken to Rideout Medical Center, and the younger boy was flown to UC Davis Medical Center.

Cause of the Fatal Yuba County Crash

The CHP is continuing to investigate the cause of the fatal July 11th head-on collision in Yuba County. However, if news reports are accurate, the teenage driver of the Toyota likely caused this collision, by making a lane departure into oncoming traffic, and triggering the events that led to the fatal head-on collision.
